Inspiration

Inspiration comes from many strange places. Today, I found it in anger and frustration. Mostly, from the BS going on over at the state Legislature right now. I have a rule of thumb never to write about politics or generally controversial subjects on my site or blog. My readers are here to take a break from this crazy world, and no matter what side of the fence on whatever issues you're on, you're not here for that. (I assume the people that think Dungeons & Dragons and Harry Potter are tendrils of Satan probably wouldn't be reading my fantasy/sci-fi/steampunk stories anyway, let alone this blog.)

I really was stuck on chapter 21, which is the big showdown between Der and one of the more persistent villains in S&B. It's an awesome fight scene, but I've been hesitating to write it for about a week now. Call it fear, I guess. I don't want to mess this up. I don't think that by getting this chapter done that anything in my life will change. Well, I'm writing now (or at least least I will be, once I'm off work).

Today was supposed to be the last day of the Legislature. Ha! To date they have no Census redistricting maps, no budget (we have a state amendment demanding a balanced budget), no school funding, etc etc... You know, stuff they've been working on since January. Oh wait, we did pass a tax plan which will give the state an 800million+ budget shortfall in a couple of years, and now this:

[Kansas] House Passes United Nations Conspiracy Resolution!

I'll give you the first paragraph:

"The [Kansas] House advanced a resolution Thursday demanded by [Kansas] lawmakers fearful about covert infiltration of U.S. environmental policy by socialist ideals espoused by the United Nations."

-THE TOPEKA CAPITAL-JOURNAL (see above link for full article)

Because UN spies (does the UN even have its own spies??) have NOTHING better to do than investigate Kansas policy? Also, you must sign a socialist pledge to join the UN, which *gasp* since the US is a member of the UN, we're a SOCIALIST NATION!

*gasp* *gasp* *gasp*

That was melodramatic sarcasm for the 1% of you who would take that seriously.

I am happy to report that I voted for NONE of these bozos, nor will I in the next election. Also, I may just get chapter 21 done this weekend!
